King's College London

Kings College London is a public university located in London, UK, and a constituent college of the federal University of London. Kings was founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington and received its Royal Charter in the same year, making it perhaps the third oldest university in England. King was one of the two founding colleges of the University of London in 1836 and grew through mergers, including Queen Elizabeth College and Chelsea College of Science and Technology in 1985, the Institute of Psychiatry in 1997 The medical and dental States and Guy St. Thomas hospitals' and Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery in 1998. King became the largest university center and post - graduate medical education and bio-medical research in Europe by the number of students and is considered a leading multidisciplinary universities worldwide.

Governance:

The head of King's College London is formally principal and president , currently held by Ed Byrne. The office was established by the Charter of King as "the principal academic and administrative college ( and Kings Statutes its main overall responsibility for the church ) to ensure that the objects of the College are met, and preservation and promotion of efficiency , discipline and good order of the Order . " the charter and bylaws granted in 2009 established the additional post of " president. " as such , the full title of the head of King's College London " principal and president. "



Admissions:

An access to information request revealed that received the university ( 31,857 ) undergraduate applications and made 13,302 offers in 2014-15 . This gave an acceptance rate of 18.9 % and 41.8% of the offer. School of Medicine received 1764 applications , only 39 offers were made , resulting in a rate of only 2.2 % of supply . Nursery & midwifery , physiotherapy and clinical dental care had the lowest rate of 14 %, 16 % and 17 % offer.


Teaching & Graduation:

King's academic year runs from the last Monday in September to the first Friday in June.Graduation ceremonies are held in January and June or July, with ceremonies held in South-wark Cathedral for the School of Medicine and the Dental Institute and in the Barbican Centre for all other Schools. Since 2008 King's graduates have worn gowns designed by Vivienne Westwood.
